The dynamism of our worldwide economy is really uncommon. Also, in a global environment like today’s, change is a long way from the special case—it is a must!
one change specifically can directly affect making a more impartial worldwide framework, eventually driving manageable improvement across the world. That change is attempting to build women’s economic participation and promote a much more inclusive economy, which can possibly drive development and growth and positively impact all global citizens. MENA Countries providing a suitable business environment elevated their success & growth; however, some MENA countries lack the legal, economical, & operational business environment & laws that have excluded the role of women in the Arab Economy as well as the social & cultural norms.
Data and reports from the world data bank reflect on how the change from 2009 till 2019 across the Labor female participation as well as the overall entrepreneurial women participation, and the cost and ease of access to business ownership and registration.
Some countries in the MENA region such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman have achieved huge advancement in the past 10 years. while the rest of the region unfortunately have not joined the movement yet. However, we must mention that countries like Bahrain and Qatar are performing very well to the point that they are almost as supportive as Norway which is a leader in the world when it comes to females rights, wherein Norway females take on average 7 days to start a business and in Bahrain and Qatar it takes only 10 days, which is great when compared to neighbor countries such as Kuwait and Saudi Arabia where they recorded 36 days of waiting.
A very interesting country to look at closely in the MENA region is Sudan. Sudan has 60% of females who are self-employed. The graphs below show detailed statistics about the other countries.
Potential Solutions:
- Applying changes to the laws that promote woman in business involvement
- Create Regional commissions representing Women in the region and speak out on their rights and promote ad campaigns that can break the social norms and barriers
- Increase funding for women-led startups
- Create opportunities for foreign investors by giving tax incentives and make it easier to register property
- Governments should impose strict laws that protect Women’s rights in labor participation and equal pay.
- Lower the taxes on the female for a given time frame until the target is reached to promote employability among the private sector
Regional commissions representing Women should create a regional program along with an action plan in collaboration with a worldwide organization promoting female participation and inclusiveness.
conclusion:
Based on the insights, I can conclude that Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE have been able to improve Women’s participation in the labor force, however, the startup and entrepreneurship scene remains minimal. on the other hand, entrepreneurship is on the rise in Egypt, Sudan while taking into consideration the low rate of participation, meaning that a big portion of the labor force is mostly self-employed.
