The entirety of the movie and film industry has been widely seen as a home for rumors and speculation for as long as it’s been accounted for. Audiences, with a majority of them having a fondness for both fictional and nonfictional drama and excitement, are often captivated by the lives of their favorite movie stars off of the screen and behind the scenes. One of the recent instances of such activity occurred with the groundbreaking romantic comedy, “Anyone But You”. Despite the garnered attention for its appealing storyline, viewers of the romantic comedy have drastically shifted their attention to become entangled in the rumors surrounding the movie’s lead actors, Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney.
The movie itself, “Anyone But You”, has been a huge success for the producers and directors of the movie, becoming one of the most profitable movies as of the first two months of the year 2024. The movie is a cliche yet compelling romantic comedy with an engaging storyline. Sydney’s character, who is the owner of a local bookstore, encounters a series of misadventures and troubles, and feels extremely hopeless in the face of all the obstacles coming her way. This sets the stage for the appearance of Glen Powell’s character, who enters Sweeney’s character’s life as a charming but somewhat clumsy individual. After an amazing first date between the two, they see themselves in an ice-cold misunderstanding, making them willingly drift apart. However, they unexpectedly bump into each other in a wedding where Sydney’s character had found herself with her back against the wall. As a result, the duo opted for the most sensible and mature thing that adults would do: pretend to be a couple. The events that followed inevitably led the stars to confront their true feelings and embrace a second chance at love.
Away from the script, Glen and Sydney were spotted multiple times off-set where they appeared to have a special bond between them and chemistry began to light up. What makes things more interesting to the audience is the fact that Sydney has been engaged to her fiance Jonathan Davino for quite a time now. Rumors became more and more adamant as the movie came closer to its release date, showing more of the duo’s relationship behind the scenes, and therefore making things much more enthralling for viewers. Despite both Powell and Sweeney maintaining professionalism throughout the releasing of the movie, most sources of media remained posing the question of whether the two were having an affair or not.
Several stances and statements have been given to douse the rumors down and focus on the promotion of the movie rather than waste time on a potentially fictional romantic story. In early November in a cover story for “Men’s Health”, Glen Powell claimed that the rumors being said about him and his co-star were “unfair” and that there is no correlation whatsoever with his then recent breakup with ex-girlfriend model Gigi Paris, who ironically unfollowed Sydney on Instagram at the same time she unfollowed Glen. Media even went as far as interviewing the Euphoria star’s fiance, Jonathan Davino, who quickly brushed off all questions about the rumors that came his way. Sydney has also claimed that “I’ve been in a steady relationship for a really long time, which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age,” in a report to Glamour UK back in December. As of recent events, Sydney seems to have decided for herself to take action and kill the rumors once and for all by speaking out on Saturday Night Live. She publicly claimed that her fiance and her produced the movie together and that he remains “the man of her dreams” as they are still together and “stronger than ever”.
The media in Hollywood has had ongoing stories as such for as long as anyone can remember. However, as per usual, official statements and interviews by the involved parties have declared otherwise, indicating that this scenario is yet another casual misinterpretation from the film industry media. This is not to undermine any potential cases where the couple have indeed been together, but who are we to engage in movie stars’ personal lives?
