Women in the Workplace

by | Nov 22, 2022 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

Women are still a minority in some work fields, but there has been significant evolution in their representation over the years. As of 2018, women make up just over 50% of the workforce, which is a rise from 20% back in 1992. We hope to see more females entering top positions in different fields so that women are not seen simply as second best or adjunct to a position, but rather a vital force to be reckoned with.

The Women Business and Law Index is based on eight indicators :

Mobility, Workplace, Pay, Marriage, Parenthood, Entrepreneurship, Assets, Pension.

The Problem is that Women Business and Law index (WB&L) was low in the 1970s, meaning that women had very low representation in the workforce among all sectors. This WB&L index varies among countries, where developing countries have a lower score than developed countries. This is due to the social and cultural norms in some countries which are limiting women’s presence in the workforce.

Potential Solution:

-Remove gender pay gap

-Equality in training both genders for job positions

-Increase Women Presence in the Political Sector

-Removing cultural and social boundaries which limit women from being present in the workforce

Solution Details:

– Increasing women wages to be somehow equal to males, since there should not be any prioritization for men.

-Support women in the workplace to be included in executive positions and on corporate boards.

– Increasing women presence in the political sector, by removing barriers that hinder their participation in politics and other sectors.

Findings and Recommendations:

  • Between 1977 and 2007, women who have been practicing law have increased by 2,900%.
  • 60% of all CEO and CFO positions are held by women
  • Women have been the majority of those working in healthcare for over 30 years.
  • Female business ownership rate of 50% is the historical average.
