During the five-hour session, there was democrats and republicans concerns about the app’s control over Americans, particularly the negative impact on the mental health of kids. Chew has frequently rejected any connection between the app and the Chinese, claiming that the platform guarantees the security of its own 150 million American users. The hearing, however, gave big push to lawmakers’ demands to prohibit the platform nationwide, and the United States could insist that TikTok’s Chinese owners sell their shares or risk a potential ban.
