Every CEO, student, banker, or even average internet user has heard of the revolutionary ChatGPT. How it works and how it is rapidly changing the world remains a mystery to most. ChatGPT utilizes the field of NLP (Natural Language Processing), which works by training artificial intelligence on a large database of text data and has seen significant advancement in recent years.
Most NLP based AI models utilize the GPT (Generative Pretrained Transformer) architecture, which is a type of transformer network trained on a large corpus of text data. The training process allows the model to learn patterns in the text data and understand the relationships between words, phrases, and sentences.
One of the key strengths of ChatGPT is its ability to generate text that is contextually relevant to the prompt given to it. For example, if the prompt is a question about cell biology, the model will generate a coherent and grammatically correct response that is relevant to it. This makes it an ideal tool for tasks such as question-answering, summarization, and language translation.
For those reasons, ChatGPT is the subject of many controversies around the world, from people engaging in academic misconduct to the entirety of big tech companies worrying about this development. Microsoft invested 10 billion USD as of Jan-2023, Google issued a red alert regarding ChatGPT, and the entire education sector shifted away from essay writing due to ChatGPT’s ability to write essays and papers, and generally do the work most students tend to put off.
ChatGPT’s potential in other fields of study, such as software engineering, has so far proved to be a threat, given that it has shown the capability of writing accurate algorithms and programs, threatening the entire field of software engineering of soon becoming useless to some extent, with the development of AI tools.
ChatGPT could easily be named the revolutionary technological advancement of the century, yet it poses great risk to certain areas of everyday life. It can either elevate humanity’s train of thought and critical thinking or reduce them to zero. It revolutionized the tertiary sector and provided the base for NLP and the exponential growth that will come with these new technologies. ChatGPT’s capabilities are a form of excellence. Parts of this article were even written using ChatGPT, it is up to the reader to decide which those are.
