The Faculty of Health Sciences

Historical Background

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) was established in 1954 as an independent School of Public Health, the first of its kind in the region. The name of the school was changed to the Faculty of Health Sciences in 1978 to accommodate programs in allied health.

FHS serves to educate and train professionals and competent leaders to help meet the health needs of Lebanon and the region. Currently, FHS hosts four departments: Epidemiology and Population Health (EPH), Environmental Health (EH), Health Promotion and Community Health (HPCH), and Health Management and Policy (HMP); and a Division of Health Professions hosting three programs in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine: Medical Audiology Sciences¹, Medical Imaging Sciences and Medical Laboratory Sciences. FHS offers a BS degree in: Environmental Health, Medical Audiology Sciences1, Medical Imaging Sciences and Medical Laboratory Sciences; a BA degree in Health Communication; an MS in Public Health (MPH) (concentrations in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health Promotion and Community Health, and Health Management and Policy); and an MS in Epidemiology. FHS also offers an MS in Environmental Sciences, major: Environmental Health (as part of an Interfaculty Graduate Environmental Sciences Program), an Executive Master in Health Care Leadership, and a PhD program in Epidemiology. In addition, FHS provides teaching of public health to students in the Faculty of Medicine.

Master of Public Health (MPH)

Background

The Master of Public Health (MPH) is a professional degree that provides students with interdisciplinary educational experiences combining the biological, epidemiological, environmental, sociological, behavioral and managerial dimensions of public health. Students then choose specialized training in an area of concentration and engage in relevant community-based experiences in public health practice.

Our students come from all over the world from a variety of various disciplines and graduate from the program to work in leading organizations and diverse settings of public health.

The Council on Education for Public Health assures quality in public health education and training to achieve excellence in practice, research and service, through collaboration with organizational and community partners.

The Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health was founded in 1924 at Johns Hopkins University within the School of Hygiene and Public Health to promote the graduate study of public health, and to recognize outstanding achievement in the new field.

The ASPPH is the voice of accredited academic public health, representing schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

Aspher is dedicated to strengthening the role of public health by improving education and training of public health professionals for both practice and research

The CUGH is a rapidly growing Washington, DC based organization of over 170 academic institutions and other organizations from around the world engaged in addressing global health challenges.
