PATIENT TESTIMONIALS
THE BMT PROGRAM’S MISSION FOR CANCER PATIENTS
  • Few diseases take their toll on all aspects of human life highlighting the challenges of treatment as significantly as cancer. With an impact encompassing all aspects of “being”, it urges medicine to look more keenly into the ravages of the human side of disease.

  • As more people live longer with their cancer, the caseload of cancer is set to grow.

  • Patients are thrown into the perspective of a life-limiting illness which has its own language, after a cancer diagnosis. A patient-integrated approach and the provision of information about treatments, chemotherapy side effects and other issues can help patients and their caregivers overcome the challenges related to cancer and its treatment.

  • The Bone Marrow Transplant Program is committed to an interactive medical approach going both ways: response from our core of patients and families about all these aspects of care helps us better centre our medical services and respond to patient needs.
THE ROLE OF PATIENTS' INPUT
  • Feedback is essential to patient care: it strengthens the partnership between our healthcare providers and patients and improves quality of care.
  • When patients share insights and concerns → This helps identify aspects of care to attend to and opens new chances for important elements of care: The Bone Marrow Transplant Program benefits from the Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute cardio-oncology, onco-fertility, psycho-oncology and palliative care programs.

  • Patient response enhances and consolidates the Bone Marrow Transplant’s role as a patient-centered program.

  • The program welcomes patients feedback to improve patient needs.
THE PATIENT TESTIMONIALS BOARD
  • The Bone Marrow Transplant program started displaying letters and thoughts on a board at the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. These testimonials are opportunities to share the perspectives, insight and the knowledge of our patients of how we get the job done and the cancer treatment journey. These letters are chances to remember what we do and why we do it!

  • Here’s why bone marrow transplant journeys are important to tell: Survivorship and patient stories help those who are going through the disease to manage better and can help those who have gone through it to better overcome it and get on with their lives.

  • Stories are inspirational to other patients: shared personal testimonials can help bridge the feelings of isolation some patients can face and can bring some hope throughout challenging treatment.
