The Basics of Injury Prevention Workshop
In collaboration with the British Colombia Injury Prevention and Research Unit (BCIPRU), the British Colombia Children's Hospital Research Institute, and the University of British Colombia (UBC), MENA PAIR organized Lebanon's inaugural 'Basics of Injury Prevention' workshop on March 9 and 10, 2023. Drs. Ian Pike and Shelina Babul (UBC) joined Dr. Samar Al-Hajj (AUB) in imparting attendees with a comprehensive understanding of injury prevention theory and practice. The workshop encompassed an overview by Dr. Al-Hajj on injury definition, classification, prevalence, and available data sources to aid participants in selecting their specific injury problem. Dr. Al-Hajj also discussed the current injury burden and prevention strategies in Lebanon. Trainees from NGOs (such as YASA and Doctors without Borders), Emergency Medical Services (including the Lebanese Red Cross and Civil Defense), physiotherapists, Emergency Department physicians, coaches, and researchers collaborated to select specific injury problems, including elderly fractures, road traffic injuries, pediatric burns, and ACL injuries. They then worked to formulate a comprehensive framework for implementing and evaluating relevant intervention strategies.
