  • The Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute (NKBCI) at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) is a Center of Excellence dedicated to the treatment of adult cancer patients. NKBCI has a leading fellowship training Program with strong affiliations with regional and international institutions including King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, King Hussein Cancer Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the Winship Cancer Institute. Our faculty are national, regional, and international leaders in clinical and translational research with ongoing clinical trials and more than 80 major publications annually.

NKBCI is the first medical institute in Lebanon to:

 

  • Have specialized oncology nurses, case managers, social workers and dedicated oncology pharmacists as part of the multi-disciplinary team (AUBMC is the first healthcare facility with MAGNET designation in the Middle East Region, a nursing accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)).
  • Perform the first unrelated donor stem cell transplant and over 100 stem cell transplants annually.
  • Perform the first radiofrequency (RF) ablation of a breast mass by the Radiation Therapy team.
  • Establish the first structured Data Management and Clinical Research Unit in Lebanon with a prospective database for several cancer disease sites.
  • Earn the Joint Accreditation Committee of the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) and the International Society for Cellular Therapy (ISCT) (JACIE) accreditation for its Bone Marrow Transplant Program, Europe’s official accreditation body in the field of haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and cellular therapy.

International Patients' Tips
  • International Patients’ Services Office

Our office aims to provide premier service to every international patient who chooses to seek AUBMC’s health care services. Our International Patients’ Services team will ensure a smooth delivery of all the required services before, during, and after your visit to AUBMC.

Upon arrival, you will be escorted from the main entrance of the Medical Center to the International Patients’ Services Office. There, you will be provided with a one-stop admissions process whereby your plan of care will be reviewed and all the required appointments, admission papers, and finances will be completed. The International Patients’ Services Coordinator will remain your single point of contact for follow-ups and future communication.

 

  • Travel and Lodging

The International Patients’ Services Office will help you with all your travel and lodging requirements in order to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

1. Ticket Arrangement

Our office can arrange for your ticket reservation through our partner travel agents.

2. Transportation/Airport Pickup

For your convenience, our office can arrange for your transportation from the Rafic Hariri International Airport to your residence upon your request. If your medical condition requires immediate transportation to our Medical Center, ambulance services can also be provided upon your request.

3. Hotel/Residence Accommodation

  • AUBMC enjoys special rates from nearby hotels and residential suites. Our team will be glad to help you choose and reserve the hotel/residence of your choice.

Once your visit is planned and scheduled, you will receive confirmation from the International Patients’ Services Office detailing your appointments and the respective estimated cost of your medical care.

The estimated cost of your medical care is prepared by our Financial Officer who will verify your financial clearance, explain payment modalities, and update you about your financial account during your hospital stay.

AUBMC accepts financial coverage/guarantee from many insurance companies throughout the world. If you are insured, kindly present a copy of your insurance card (front and back), along with a copy of your ID or passport. Our Financial Officer will confirm your eligibility of coverage at AUBMC.

 

  • Embassies

AUBMC accepts financial coverage/guarantee from medical offices of many embassies. If your medical care is covered by your embassy, contact the International Patient Care Coordinator to verify your eligibility to benefit from such coverage.

 

  • Language Assistance

AUBMC respects the diverse population it serves. Interpreters of your language of choice are available to help you communicate and understand your medical condition and plan of care with your physician.
