On the occasion of the World Hospice & Palliative Care Day, the Palliative and Supportive Care Program at Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute at the American University of Beirut Medical Center held a workshop entitled:

Tips for a better grief

on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 11 am till 2 pm at the Halim and Aida Daniel Academic and Clinical Center (ACC) multipurpose room, main lobby.

  • This event was part of the global World Hospice & Palliative Care Day campaign “Healing Hearts & Communities” organized by the International Alliance for Hospice and Palliative Care, which aims to help normalize the experience of grief upon the loss of a loved one, and showcase experiences from compassionate caregivers to shed light on coping mechanisms and building wellness.
  • During the workshop, we invited caregivers of bereaved patients at AUBMC to share their grief experiences with the audience. In addition, our social worker gave a presentation on coping mechanisms for better grief. Lastly, we distributed olive pots for the caregivers who attended the workshop and asked them to write messages for their loved ones on white cloud boards. A board with pictures of bereaved patients in the shape of a heart was displayed throughout the whole event.
