Ali’s research deals with the interdisciplinary issues for managing the design and development of complex man-made engineering systems. This research is motivated by a lack of formal ED & PD models in the engineering/operations management literature and practice. His research concentrates on this gap by using Mathematical Modeling (i.e. Optimization, Simulation, and Complex Networks) and Machine Learning (i.e., Regression, Classification, Clustering, Dimensionality Reduction, Topic Modelling (NLP)) techniques to create systematic methods and associated computer tools for the analysis and improvement of Product Design and Development Processes.
- Research agenda includes: Managing iteration & overlapping of development (i.e., innovation) activities, system decomposition & integration, resource allocation, design process dynamics (i.e. convergence), and product evolution.
- Application areas are in distributed, collaborative, and crowd-sourced product development projects, management of technological innovations, and project management.
I have over 5000 Google Scholar citations with an h-index of 35 and i10-index of 66.
