Professor Ali Yassine is a leading researcher and educator in the areas of Engineering Design (ED) and Product Development (PD). He is an expert in using Operations Research (OR) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques (i.e., model-based and data-driven approaches) for managing the design and development of complex engineering products / systems.
A study led by Stanford and published in PLOS Biology has provided a public database of standardized citation metrics for the world’s top 2% of scientists in their field classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. In this study, I have been ranked at number 97 out of 8617 researchers worldwide (full list) in the sub-field of Design Practice & Management.
Prof. Yassine is the associate editor for the Systems Engineering (SE) Journal and IEEE Engineering Management Review (EMR), and on the editorial boards of Research in Engineering Design (RED) and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management (TEM).
Dr. Yassine received the B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1988 from the American University of Beirut. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1989 and 1994 in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He was a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT Center for Technology Policy & Industrial Development from Jan. 1999 to Aug. 2002. Dr. Yassine is a member of INFORMS, ASME and PDMA.
Professor Yassine has authored over 120 articles, in leading Engineering and Management academic journals and refereed international conferences, covering Product Design & Development, Project & Portfolio Management, Systems & Entrepreneurial Engineering, and Management of Technology & Technological Innovations. He has over 5000 Google Scholar citations with an h-index of 35 and i10-index of 66.

I have over 20 years of university (and executive education) teaching and research in Mathematical Modeling & Optimization, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Engineering & Project Management, and Technology & Innovation Management. Advisor for 5 PhD students and 44 Master’s theses.
I have been funded by and consulted for various governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, and industrial corporations such as the National Science Foundation, National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance, Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research, Munib & Angela Masri Institute of Energy and Natural Resources, General Motors, FORD Motor Company, John Deere Company, and Dar Al-Handasah.
