Dr. Samar Al-Hajj is featured on The Researcher, an OSB-AUB initiative spotlighting impactful scholarship from the AUB community. In this segment, Dr. Al-Hajj unpacks the alarming rise in accidents and injuries in Lebanon -especially among youth- and explains the patterns and risk factors fueling this surge. She discusses gaps in road safety and injury prevention, the consequences for families and the health system, and the urgent need for evidence-based policies and community interventions. Drawing on years of injury-surveillance and field studies, she highlights priority actions to reduce preventable deaths and disabilities. Dr. Al-Hajj has led multiple national and regional studies on the burden of injury in Lebanon, including the first nationwide child road-injury study, and work on injuries among refugee populations and vulnerable groups across the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR).
