About Us

We started as Khaddit Beirut (KB), a response grassroot movement to the Beirut port blast in 2020. We got together as a group of scholars sharing our scholarship, expertise and a similar aspiration to serve our communities. We focused on four community-based initiatives: health, education, environment, and businesses.

In 2023, we found a home in the American University of Beirut (AUB), forming a grassroot participatory cluster under the provost’s office. We are now known as Scholar Activists for Impact and Learning for Change (SAIL for Change) as we go beyond the shake-up status in co-designing sustainable solutions with communities driven by their local needs.

We are a group of scholar activists collaborating with experts, students, community members, national and international organizations, on a volunteering basis expanding with KB’s initiatives to rebuild together our communities in a safe eco and social environment.

Our cluster applies an agile, evidence-based, inclusive, and holistic approach. Our work is driven by social justice and focuses on local needs.

Mission:

We aim to break silos separating academic knowledge from local communities by engaging and mobilizing scholar activists who use their expertise in co-creating solutions, empowering public institutions, co-designing best practices, and identifying growth opportunities for community members.

Vision:

We envision scholars joining their communities in finding long-term and sustainable solutions that address local needs and ensure people’s well being.
