In this intervention, you will be linked to a telephone based smoking cessation program and you will receive the below:
- During your routine visit at the primary healthcare center, you will be asked about tobacco use and you will be offered brief advice and counseling to quit by the physician.
- Self-help educational material about quitting smoking.
- Six Phone – based behavioral counseling sessions, once per week 15-30 minutes long, led by a certified smoking cessation counselor
- Prescription of nicotine replacement therapy (gum) which work on reducing severity of withdrawal symptoms, reducing cravings and urges to smoke.
- Phone based follow up at month 1 and 3 after the intervention
- Face to face follow up with carbon monoxide monitoring at month 6 after the intervention
