MECH 320: Mechanics of Materials

Spring 2024 | Professor Rami Mhanna

As mechanical engineering students, we were required to build and analyze a machine that operates through torque for our MECH 320 course. We chose the torsen limited slip differential to be prototyped and designed for further analysis. The Red Room significantly contributed to our project by providing us with 3D prints, a handy space, the equipment needed for assembly, in addition to any form of assistance when necessary.

MECH 320: Mechanics of Materials

In collaboration with the DIgiTal Cultural Heritage (DITCH) center at AUB’s Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (MSFEA), the Red Room at the American University of Beirut proudly contributed to an interdisciplinary project aimed at revitalizing artifacts shattered in the Beirut explosion. Our focus centered on developing virtual 3D reconstructions of selected broken glass vessels, utilizing cutting-edge technology and expertise available within the Red Room’s makerspace. With access to state-of-the-art 3D printers, our team transformed digital designs into tangible replicas, offering a glimpse into the potential of 3D printing technology in cultural heritage preservation. Through this collaborative effort, the Red Room demonstrates its commitment to fostering innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, serving as a catalyst for impactful projects that bridge disciplines and advance knowledge.
