BUSS 350 D – Venture Building Practicum

Dr. The Darwazah Center for Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship supports entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs (within companies) to take their ideas to the next level through the BUSS 350 D – Venture Building Practicum course. This is a 4-months graduate course that gives entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs the tools to develop their value proposition and validate it, develop their Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and fine tune their skills to pitch their startup ideas for investors. The 16 sessions the BUSS 350 D – Venture Building Practicum teams attend consist of 25% theoretical knowledge where they learn the principles of lean venture or startups design and 75% of hands-on assessment of Product-Market Fit of the Venture/Startup. The BUSS 350 D – Venture Building Practicum was featured by AACSB during its EMEA Annual Conference in 2018, which was held at the ESCP Europe Business School in Paris, France and during its Middle East Summit, which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Dr. Bijan Azad presented the course as part of a session highlighting what other schools can learn from the experience of the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut.

“I was introduced to the Darwazah Center via the AUB course “Entrepreneurship and Innovation Practicum”. At the time, I was building my knowledge of starting a business and the experience at the Darwazah Center helped shape the strategy, vision, and execution of Nutshell. After graduation, my affiliation with the Darwazah Center didn’t end there. The network provided via the center, be it the professors, investors, or other entrepreneurs, gives me a wealth of information, strong exposure, and a solid support system. Only 2 weeks ago, I met with Dr. Bijan to seek his advice on Nutshell’s progress and next steps in our growth.”

Lama Abi Mosleh

Founder & Food Technologist, Nutshell

“Darwazah Center helped me channel my ambition and my love for innovation. In a matter of few weeks, we were already dealing with our first customer. That is something I would’ve never anticipated.
Reaching a goal through trial and error is a concept that I’ve learned at different stages in my education. However, I didn’t realize the power of that tool in building a startup. Darwazah center gave me that, a framework for real life trial and error that had benefits going beyond creating your first company.”

Ghassan Abi Fadel

Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Moodfit

“Darwazah Center changed my way of thinking from a researcher searching for the best complicated lab solution to an entrepreneur searching for the simplest and most necessary aspect needed by the customer. I was taught that entrepreneurship is a skill that can be learned not a gift one is born with. You can just learn the science behind it and practice the needed skills to pursue it. Not only did the Darwazah Center push me towards pivoting my invention to have the best market-fit, it taught me to pivot my way of thinking from and engineer and scientist to an entrepreneur.”

Waddah Malaeb

Founder & CEO, DLOC Biosystems, inc.

“This course has taught me a lot of fundamental tools that anyone considering entrepreneurship must develop. Its practical nature, weekly iterations, and one-on-one mentoring are key factors to help entrepreneurs exceed their limits and discover what actually works in practice. I believe the highlight of this course was that I had the chance to pitch infront of a large jury of successful entrepreneurs, experts in the tech sector, and top AUB faculty.”
