The Halim and Aida Daniel Academic and Clinical Center (ACC) is a 30,000-square meter, 14-story building. It is projected to have 9 floors including educational and research programs, numerous outpatient clinics, a same day surgery floor, as well as 5 levels of underground parking.
The exterior design is a 2-part composition of interlocking forms, with a solid screen that integrates the clinical and academic program, represented by the glass base. The ACC exterior design stands to evolve around the values of strength and permanence expressed by the existing medical center buildings that promote a spirit of “trust through transparency”. The open façade architecture with solid screen inverts the relationship of opaque to transparent material of the existing buildings, while maintaining a complementary relationship of building materials. The ACC interior spaces are organized to maximize natural daylight and views, where the main patient waiting areas are oriented towards the AUB campus and the Mediterranean Sea.
