WHO WE ARE
We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut that aim to mitigate the drivers of early marriage among Syrian refugee adolescent girls in Lebanon.
How did Amenah Start?
The Amenah intervention started following a survey conducted on school attendance and marriage among Syrian refugee girls and young women who reside in three towns in the Bekaa region of Lebanon. The survey results showed that half of 9-17-year-old Syrian refugee girls were not enrolled in school and 24% of those younger than 18 years of age were married.
- Syrian refugee girls not enrolled in school 50%
