AgHive organized the First National Scientific Workshop for Stakeholders within the framework of the TRANSCEND Project in Hermel, Lebanon
AgHive was honoured to organize the First National Scientific Workshop for stakeholders within the framework of TRANSCEND, a project addressing Transformational and Robust AdaptatioN to water Scarcity and ClimatE chaNge under Deep uncertainty” on September 26, 2023, in Hermel, Lebanon.
Stakeholder engagement took center stage in the workshop titled “Formulation of Challenges in the Orontes River Basin”. Effective water resource management hinges on engaging stakeholders to facilitate decision-making, implement projects, formulate policies, and secure resources. Given the increasing water demand due to unpredictable climate patterns, the need for collaborative efforts is essential.
During this workshop, the organizing team tapped into a wealth of knowledge from various stakeholders, including farmers, aquaculture business owners, municipalities, local government entities, ministries, and NGOs, all representing water users in the Upper Orontes Basin (Hermel, Lebanon).
The discussion revolved around the pressing challenges posed by climate change and unpredictable weather patterns, which enriched the research team’s understanding of the current issues facing the basin and its users.
This 4-year project, coordinated by the University of Salamanca, Spain, brings together an international scientific consortium of 11 participants from 7 countries: Lebanon, Spain, Slovakia, Italy, Sweden, Austria, and Greece. The EU-funded TRANSCEND project will identify and catalyse the adoption of transformational adaptation policies (TAPs) addressing water scarcity, including innovative and robust allocation systems and economic instruments.
